Course Description

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is an evidence-based approach that focuses on creating a preferred future rather than exploring the past.  For those who work with clients who are struggling with high-conflict or intimate partner violence this means an empowering shift away from who is to blame and toward how they want their relationship to be.  This requires that professionals adopt a different way of thinking, shift toward exploring safety and mutual trust, and have a strong sense of intentionality in every question. Join us for a lively and interactional training that will challenge the very foundation of how we think when working with intimate partner violence as we explore a yes-and way of interacting. Come prepared with questions and cases as we learn together!

What you will learn:

  1. Explain the difference between problem-solving and Solution-Focused thinking

  2. Understand Haesun Moon’s Dialogical Orientation Quadrant and explain how to use it for de-escalation

  3. Identify two tools to lower the power differential between professional and client in session to increase safety.
