Frequently Asked Questions about relationship development, domestic violence prevention, and the Relationship Training Institute's relationship training workshops.

We have provided answers to frequently asked questions regarding the
Relationship Training Institute and its workshops.

If you have any additional questions, please e-mail us at info.RTIprojects.org or
call 619-296-8103 x10.

1. Can I attend The STOP Program workshop and become a court-certified domestic violence provider anywhere in California?
Yes. The San Diego County Probation Department and the San Diego Domestic Violence Council have specifically reviewed this course and approved it for this certification. San Diego County's regulations are among the strictest throughout the state. Other counties have consistently honored this training course.

2. I am a court-approved child custody evaluator. Can I attend one of RTI's training courses and meet the conditions for domestic violence education?
Yes and no. Certain days of The STOP Program workshop and selected days from other workshops meet the requirements for advanced education in domestic violence for child custody evaluators. Since the requirements for advanced education is only four hours annually, you may attend a workshop for a half-day at a slightly reduced fee and receive this credit.

None of these trainings, however, qualify as the basic training in domestic violence for child custody evaluators. Please contact the California Family Court Services office at 415.865.7604 for information about these courses in your area.

3. My partner and I are seeking help for our relationship. Does RTI have programs to help us save and improve our relationship?
Definitely. RTI offers Dr. Wexler's Building Better Relationships workshop annually to bring out the best qualities in relationships. RTI also maintains a list of top-quality couples' therapist referrals in the San Diego community. Please contact RTI at 619.296.8103 x10 or info@RTIprojects.org for more information.

4. Do any RTI courses meet the requirements for psychologists, MFT's, or LCSW's to fulfill the re-licensure requirements for coursework in spouse abuse?
Definitely. The When Push Comes to Shove workshop and any individual day of the The STOP Program workshop will meet these requirements. Please check the "Workshops" link to find out current schedules for these workshops.

5. I am preparing for licensure as a psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, or marriage and family therapist. Can I attend one of RTI's courses to meet the re-licensing requirements for spouse abuse education?
Yes, the same applies. The When Push Comes to Shove workshop and any individual day of The STOP Program workshop will meet these requirements. Please check the "Workshops" link to find out current schedules for these workshops.

6. I would like to attend one of RTI's workshops, but I am from out of town. Do you have recommendations for nearby, reasonably priced hotels?
Yes. Please contact our office manager at 619.296.8103 x10 or info@RTIprojects.org for this list.

7. I will be attending an upcoming RTI workshop. I want to receive CE credits, but I will have to leave the workshop an hour early. Can I receive partial credit?
Sorry, but this is strictly legislated by the various professional certification boards. You must attend the entire conference to receive any credit. RTI has tried to design workshops so that attendees may select single days, but you must still attend the entire workshop for that day.

8. Many people in my area would like to attend one of the RTI trainings. Is it possible for your staff to come to our area to present?
Definitely. RTI contracts with professional organizations throughout the United States to provide trainings in their areas. Contact our office manager about working out specific details.

9. I have been referred by the Court (Probation Officer, Child Welfare Services, or another agency or health care professional) for a program dealing with relationship conflict issues. What are the options?

RTI offers outstanding Court-approved programs for many forms of relationship conflict and relationship violence issues: domestic violence, child physical abuse and parenting, sexual offenders, stalking, and generalized violence/anger management. You may sign up for an assessment for any of these programs by calling 619.234.7970 and identifying the specific program you are looking for.

Another option is to attend individualized psycho-educational treatment for these issues. This program includes assessment and treatment of personal issues related to relationship conflict and abusive behaviors, using the structured manual of The STOP Program as a guide. Contact RTI at 619.296.8103 x10 or info@RTIprojects.org for more information.

10. My school desperately needs programs for students about relational aggression, sexual harassment, bullying, date rape, etc. Does RTI offer any of these programs?

Good news! RTI has developed a partnership with Rosalind Wiseman's EMPOWER Programs. RTI will contract with schools and youth programs directly to send our trained professional staff to implement prevention and education programs for students, staff, and parents.
